Want To Lose More Weight? | Healthy Diet Tips

In order to permanently succeed with your body transformation you must find your "supreme objective" and make all other elements in your life conform around it. Dwight D. Eisenhower once said, "We succeed only as we identify in life, or in war, or in anything else, a single over-riding objective, and make all other considerations bend to that one objective"

And it's not enough to just say the reason(s) out loud either, they must be written down.

As a contract between no one else but you and the good Lord these words will form a powerful force that will not only propel you forward on the journey you're about to embark, but keep you glued to the wheel of your ship (your body) through the worst of storms.

I know, this sounds a little corny. In fact, I've had many people tell me they read this technique but never applied it because they thought it was mumbo-jumbo -- feel-good, sound-good instructions without bite. It was only when they finally applied it, after failed attempts at changing their body, did they realize it worked like crazy.

Why does it work? What you've done by drafting this contract is you created a bonded instrument between your moral and physical self.

But the most important thing it does is remind you, everyday, of your promise. This is why you must place the contract in a conspicuous place where you have to read it. Drafting a contract but not reading it every day is the same as never having drafted it in the first place. The bathroom mirror, or your nightstand (where I kept mine) are good places.

In 1998 I won a National body transformation contest. While speaking with one of the executives of the company that sponsored the contest, I was told something that, at first, was a revelation to me. They told me that out of 20,000+ contestants that entered that year, only 7% finished their 12-week program. Most had dropped out by the half way point or way before.

At first this was a surprise to me. I asked myself how could so many people give up and fail to finish? I couldn't understand nor comprehend it because there wasn't one moment during my program that I even remotely considered the a possibility of giving up. My reason was too powerful (Lesson 1), I made a decision to change (Lesson 2), I had a deadline to meet (Lesson 3), and I reviewed my goals and contract every single day - no lie (Lesson 4).

But then I remembered the year before. I had entered the previous year's contest and had dropped out too...just like 93% of the contestants did the year I won. And I didn't do any of these lessons I'm revealing to you now.

Because I failed the year before I knew I'd be in the same boat again unless I put all the advantages I could on my side. I studied the principles common to successful people. Then I tailored them to maximize success for me. This principle is one of the 20 I came up with.

Would I have been as successful had I not utilized this particular principle? I doubt it. Reading my goals every night had a profoundly positive effect on my mind. After I started my program I honestly didn't think I would win, yet I knew I would be successful at transforming my body.

Which group do you want to be a part of, the successful 7%, or the defeated 93%? You've heard it said before that the power to succeed lies in your hands. But this ethereal statement is never backed up with the "how-to's" of success.

By following these principles you can harness an internal support system that will help you transcend problems or obstacles you will encounter along your path to a new body. And there will never be a doubt that you WILL ccomplish your goals.

Weight Loss Strategies

No matter who you are, losing weight is a challenge because you are aiming to change some basic habits about how much you eat, what you eat and how much you exercise. Yet it's actually easy to lose weight. All you have to do is eat good food as part of a healthy lifestyle. So what about all the fad diets? The one-size fits all approach is always going to cause problems. In this case, the diets never look back to see why you put on weight. They usually focus on eliminating specific foods (even some healthy foods), working on the basis that you do not need to count calories or learn anything about the food you eat. All you have to do is follow the book's rules and, like magic, you will lose weight. The author will promise your weight loss will be fast and easy - particularly if you buy the supplements carrying labels like "fat busters". Because it's all so easy, there's no need to exercise. The result is almost inevitable. After a short burst of enthusiasm, you grow bored with the limited range of food and go back to your old eating habits. The little weight you lost comes back, starting a yo-yo cycle of weight loss and gain that's bad for your health.

Start off by working out your BMI. Below 25 is in the healthy range. That's your target. To get there, you must eat less. Additional weight comes when you eat more calories than you need. When you reduce your food intake, your body burns stored fat to keep you going. Except, when you start eating less, you feel hungry and this is demotivating. The answer is eating more fibre which keeps you feeling fuller for longer. It's also good for keeping your digestive system healthy. That means eating more whole grains, fresh fruit and vegetables everyday. Alongside this, cut out all the sodas and sweetened drinks. Drinking water is good for you. If you miss the tastes, drink the zero-calorie versions of your favorite sodas. No more snacking. All those snacks are full of calories. Aim to eat at regular times every day, training your body to expect less food.

Finally, it's a good idea to stop eating in fast-food outlets. Burgers and deep-fried food is full of calories. If you find this a sacrifice too far, have half your meal packed and take it home. Learn about food and start counting calories. Should you find your motivation slipping, there are some appetite suppressants on the market to keep the hunger pangs at bay until you are more used to eating less. The drug with the best record for safety and effectiveness is phentermine. This has been on the market since the 1950s and is the trusted short-term way to keep hunger under control. Ask your doctor about it or buy phentermine online. Used alongside a healthy diet and a good exercise regime, you will soon find your weight dropping. More importantly, eating fewer calories as part of your lifestyle will prevent the weight returning. Choose the healthy option and make a commitment to weight loss today.

Losing Weight for Your Wedding Day - Rapid Weight Loss Techniques

Other than physical appearance, weight affects a person in many ways. This could be the overall quality of life, self-esteem, depression, health risks, and physical incapabilities. There are a lot of positive changes once a person experience's Losing Weight for your Wedding Day. It is for this reason why a lot of people are searching for a weight loss technique that will surely trim down those fats and get a super slim head turner body.

The first thing that an over-weight person should do is seek a doctor to recommend the best weight loss regimen for Losing Weight for your Wedding Day. This will be done after a full physical examination, which leads to the determination of proper weight loss technique. And to lose weight fast and effectively four aspects of life should be changed: what to eat, how to eat, behavior and activity level.

Here are fast tips that can change an over-weight's persons life:
1. Fast weight loss is composed of a multi-faceted technique that consists of mindset, exercise, and in some cases, diet supplements. Begin by learning a diet food plan that can easily be tailored to your needs. Incorporate an exercise plan that allows at least fifteen minutes a day like brisk walking, running, swimming, and dancing.

2. Set realistic approaches. The ability to focus and have the proper mindset enables someone on a diet to quickly lose those extra pounds. With discipline and the proper mind set, a dieter will never be discouraged and lose focus.

3. Listen as the body speaks. Each and everyone's body metabolism reacts differently to different fast weight loss programs and plans. Try substituting one program for another to compensate for the body's reaction. Exercise program's must be suitable to one's body, as some dieters are not able to exercise as rigorously as others can. If walking is all that can be done, then walking is proven the best exercise. Muscles burn more calories than fats so it's also best to put on a little muscle and helps in looking good too.

4. Eat more fibers. It makes a person full sooner and stays in the tummy longer, slowing down the rate of digestion. A single serving of whole grain bread moves fat through the digestive system faster. Grains turn into blood sugar that spikes the body's insulin level. Thus, making the body more energized and ready to tell the body when it should stop burning fats or start storing.

5. Keep away from fried foods, especially deep-fried as this contains a great amount of fat. Although fish and chicken appear leaner than beef, this white meat can contain more fat than beef when fried. It is recommended for those on strict diet to opt for grilled food as this does not have or contain's less amounts of fat after the food is cooked.

6. Takes lots of fluid. Drinking at least six to eight glasses of water a day keeps the body refreshed. Since weight loss depends on how the body eliminates body wastes, the body must stay hydrated.

All in all, discipline and consistency is still the best practice and the key to rapid weight loss success. Light dieting, workout, and the right amount of supplementation applied in a regular way everyday will result in faster weight loss than having a massive action only to be followed by a return to old habits as this would only lead to gaining more weight than when the weight loss plan was started.

Diabetes: Symptoms and Prevention

The typical American lifestyle reads like the ADA's list of risk factors. We're obese and inactive. We eat foods that give us high blood glucose and high cholesterol. We stress ourselves out and raise our blood pressure. It's not surprising, then, that there are over one and a half million people with type 2 diabetes in California alone.

Here are some of the most common symptoms of diabetes. If you find yourself experiencing them, it may be a good idea to check with your doctor.
- Frequent urination
- Extreme hunger
- Excessive thirst
- Unexplained weight loss
- Blurry vision
- Increased fatigue
- Irritability

Some people get "pre-diabetes" a condition characterized by high blood glucose levels, but nothing high enough to diagnose as diabetes. This can still be harmful to the body, but if you are aware of the possibility and manage your blood sugar, you may be able to turn the tide before you spend the rest of your life buying Onetouch Ultramini test strips.

The best way to avoid diabetes is to keep your blood glucose levels healthy now. This means eating right - plenty of fruits and vegetables, whole grains over Wonderbread, fish, dried beans, lean meats, diet drinks over sugar-laden ones, liquid oils over solid fats. This also means cutting back on the desserts and generally watching portion sizes. Really, it's the wonder diet you've been looking for.

The other key to avoiding diabetes is lots of exercise. If you can walk instead of driving, do it. Anything that gets you moving will help, whether its running or climbing or swimming or playing tennis. If you feel that you may be at risk, talk to your doctor about safe exercise for people who may have trouble maintaining healthy glucose levels during exercise.

Diabetes has become an epidemic in America, but if we can wise up, it doesn't have to continue to be one.

Cure Depression by Changing Diet

It's been a long time that you've been visiting your therapist and taking 3 anti-depressants per day. And now you think that probably nothing works and you'll have to live with it. We'll I've got a solution and it is simpler than all of the treatments you've been taking up till now. Yes, some little changes in your diet can do wonders for you.

Follow these tips and enjoy a healthy life.

1. Cut off all the caffeine, nicotine and alcohol.
Yes, I know they relax your nerves and help you think better, but for how long? Researches have proved that while coffee, black tea and alcohol have temporary effects on the mood; they remain the worst contributor to anxiety, depression and insomnia. Can't think of leaving tea or coffee? Try switching to green tea. It is rich in anti-oxidants which are good for you and very low caffeine concentrations.

2. Reduce your sweet intake.

Sweets don't only add to the pile of fat around your belly, but is also a contributor to depression. When taken they increase your blood sugar levels and you instantly feel energetic and light hearted. But as soon as the level of your blood sugar drops, your left frustrated, vulnerable and anxious.

3. Go green
Green leafy vegetables, if consumed regularly, would work better than any anti depressant. They are rich in folic acids, (a b vitamin), that is deficient in depressed people. Some fruits, beans and grains are also good sources of folic acid.

4. Include sea food in your diet.
Fish consumption is also a good idea, as they contain omega 3 fatty acids. The human body cannot produce it on their own, so one has to take them through diet. These are extremely important for a normal brain function. Lesser amounts of omega 3 fatty acids in the body also make one prone to depression. Though they are artificially added to some edible oils but consuming them through fish remains a better idea.

3 Quick Weight Loss Tips - Information For Effective Fat Loss

3 Quick Weight Loss Tips. Here are the 3 Quick Weight Loss Tips:
1. Plan Your Exercise Routine
It's possible for you to mix a diet with resistance (toning) and cardiovascular exercise for effective fat burning. In the beginning stages the weight loss may be marginal because you'll be building muscle mass. If this is the case, try not to be disheartened - your change in body shape will show you that you're succeeding in losing weight and toning up. Bear in mind that this can take a while so having patience will do you the world of good.

Fat burning whilst exercising only begins to take place once the human body has properly warmed up. This usually takes about 15 minutes to take place. What you need to do is plan your routine. Start with resistance exercises, then proceed with an aerobic exercise such as running; this way if you're running for 30 minutes you'll also be burning fat for 30 minutes.

Exercise does not even have to cost anything. For example, if you take a bog standard chair, for instance. We use these everyday, chairs can be used for exercise purposes. With a sturdy chair, you can do exercises such as dips, incline push ups, step up and chair squats.

Whichever exercise you do, starting it at a moderate level and building it up over a few of weeks is vital to the overall results of your workout routine. If you start off too hard it's possible you'd get an over-use injury such as back strains, and then you'll probably have to take a break from exercising to get over it. By doing this you're also less likely to get sick of doing your exercises if you start off gradually.

2. Fight for Hunger and What to Avoid
A few nuts of near enough any type will stir up a hormone in your body, which can reduce hunger for a short amount of time. This is a great tip to use about 30 - 40 minutes before you go out to dinner. It will stop you from feeling too hungry, and therefore, you won't be tempted to go overboard at the first sight of food!

The more vegetables you can eat the fuller feel. Vegetables and fruit harbour a lot of fiber and water, so they will keep hunger at bay for some time (although you need to remember that fruit can add a lot of calories when you eat large amounts, especially dried fruits). Eating foods like pretzels, cookies, ice buns or soda will give you only immediate satisfaction, and you'll be craving for more in just about two hours.

3. Choose a Right Weight Loss Supplement
It's important when taking medication to ask your doctor first before starting on any type of diet. More importantly find out if any of the herbs counteract against any medicine you're presently taking. To give you an example of this, a number of supplements and herbs cause high blood pressure. These are no good for you if you're hypertensive.

Probably, the best place to find weight loss dietary supplements are indeed the internet as you can compare costs, claims of success, discounts along with other factors. If you were to trudge around drugstores it would take a long time. First, take the time to read shopper reviews and seek the best advice.

Using a meal plan Weight Loss program will help you lose weight the way your body wants to

When people concentrate on losing weight the first thing they think of is exercise and deadly fitness regimes. Yes this does help but it isn’t the only way to getting the slimmer you that you desire. In fact you can do as much fitness as you like with regard to trying to lose weight, however, none of this will matter if you don’t have an adequate meal plan.

Having a perfect meal schedule will indeed help you lose weight faster than any other factors combined. Its not just what you eat but when you eat amongst other things.

The first and most important thing is to never skip meals. The initial purpose of this is to reduce your calorie intake, but what ends up happening is that you will unintentionally snack on fatty foods leading to high fat absorption within the body. This will turn in an end result that will consist of a higher calorie intake defeating the purpose of skipping that meal.

The other factor for decent weight loss is to have more smaller meals than a few large ones. Typically 5 small meals a day instead of three. Most people have a huge dinner until they are as the saying goes ‘stuffed’ leaving them feeling bloated for about 6 hours. Instead of doing this, consuming these smaller meals will actually induce a healthier metabolic cycle which will run consistently through out the day burning of the absorbed fats. This is why breakfast is so important which a lot of people under estimate. Having breakfast kicks of your metabolism first thing in the morning and helps it to run through out the day.

Try to include a lot of protein and fibre in your meal as this will aid in your metabolism, make you feel fuller for longer and prevent you from snacking on all the unhealthy fatty foods.

Having the right diet is the key to staying healthy and fit. Balancing out your nutrient intake will result in optimal growth and development aiding in natural weight loss keeping yourself thin. In everyday life your body wants to be thin, it wants to work at prime conditions and be the best it can be. But if you feed it junk, no matter how hard it tries, it will be defeated as all the saturated are just to difficult to break down and metabolise.

So with regard to eating, consume plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, raw or cooked. Make sure you have plenty of fibre to help burn the fat do your best to cut the carbohydrate and calorie intake to reduce the fat build up. Now don’t completely leave them out as the body naturally needs fat for energy and if you do leave them out, as soon as you consume fat, the body will absorb every bit of it instead of what it needs.

The Stressful Actions behind Healthy Aging

Learning to manage stress can help you feel better about you, since you will feel healthier. Stress can be a bad thing, yet you have the power to control stress. If you let stress control you, it will affect your health. You will likely feel sick all the time, or feel like there is not hope in your world even if there is hope. For this reason, you want to learn how to take control.

How can I take control of stress?
The first thing you need to do is to take a long look. Is your situation so demanding that it stresses you? Get a view on life and decide if you want the positive or negative things offered to you. Figure out how stress will affect your health to see if it is worth hanging onto the negative. Next, ask do you eat right and do you get enough rest? How’s your diet? Is it a healthy diet or is it a junk food diet?

How do people learn to deal with stress?

People learn to deal with stress all the time. It will take time, yet if you want it bad enough you will do it. You have to learn how to cope with the stress before you can deal with it. However, if you do this it will make it easier for you and you will stay healthy. Therefore, the answer to your question is to learn new coping skills.

How can stress affect my health?

Stress can affect you in many ways. Stress can make you feel sick more then normal. Stress can make it difficult for you to make decisions, since it affects your concentrating. Your normal sleeping patterns can be affected by stress. Some people experience off balance eating habits. Some people will eat more then normal and others will not eat at all. You might develop high blood pressure. You could also be affected to the point of living with heart disease. Stress causes anxiety and depression. Stress can affect your overall mental and physical character. You need to learn how to control stress before it takes over you and controls you. You cannot just jump in and take control however, since it takes time to learn how to control stress. Still, the effort you put forth is the gain you get back.

How do I find the ways to control my stress?
You have many options. To learn how you can control stress, consider who you are and what you want from life. You can write down things that stress you the most. Keep in mind some things in life you have no control. For instance, you have children who will cause you stress. Perhaps you have a job, and sometimes it causes you stress. As you age, sometimes as a parent you feel helpless, since you have no control over your adult children. Remember, these children have rights to make their own choices, which may affect you, but you have no control. Let it go. Do not spend your time worrying or yelling at the children, since they are grown and will do what they please, just as you did in your youthful years. Work on you, not anyone else, since it is the key to finding ways to control your stress.

Learn how to say no and mean it. This is a great way to reduce stress. Do not be afraid of hurting someone’s feelings. If they cannot handle no, then the person likely feels rejection and needs help for self. Setting limits mean you have to do what has to be done first for you before someone.

Learning to manage your stress is not going to be easy but it can be done with some work and will power.

Exercise and Type 2 Diabetes

One of the most undemanding and the most workable ways to knock over blood sugar amount, eliminate the dangers of “cardiovascular disease,” and perk up health and welfare in general is exercise.

In spite of that, in today’s inactive world where almost every indispensable job can be carried out online, from the ergonomic chair in front of a computer, or with a streaming line of messages from a fax machine, exercising can be a hard argument to win over.

The Weight of Exercise
Everyone should exercise, yet the health experts tells us that only 30% of the United States population gets the recommended thirty minutes of daily physical activity, and 25% are not active at all. In fact, inactivity is thought to be one of the key reasons for the surge of type 2 diabetes in the U.S., because inactivity and obesity promote insulin resistance.

The good news is that it is never too late to get moving, and exercise is one of the easiest ways to start controlling your diabetes. For people with type 2 diabetes in particular, exercise can improve insulin sensitivity, lower the risk of heart disease, and promote weight loss.

Type 2 Diabetes
Diabetes is on the rise. The number of people diagnosed with diabetes every year increased by 48% between 1980 and 1994. Nearly all the new cases are Type 2 Diabetes, or adult-onset, the kind that moves in around middle age. Symptoms of Type 2 Diabetes include increased thirst, appetite, and need to urinate; feeling tired, edgy, or sick to the stomach; blurred vision; tingling or loss of feeling in the hands.

The causes of type 2 diabetes are complex and not completely understood, although research is uncovering new clues at a rapid pace.

However, it has already been proven that one of the reasons for the boom in type 2 diabetes is the widening of waistbands and the trend toward a more deskbound and inactive lifestyle in the United States and other developed countries. In America, the shift has been striking; in the 1990s alone, obesity increased by 61% and diagnosed diabetes by 49%.

For this reason, health experts encourage those who already have type 2 diabetes to start employing the wonders that exercise can do for them. Without exercise, people have the tendency to become obese. Once they are obese, they have bigger chances of accumulating type 2 diabetes.

Today, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services reports that over 80% of people with type 2 diabetes are clinically overweight. Therefore, it is high time that people, whether inflicted with type 2 diabetes or not, should start doing those jumping and stretching activities.

Getting Started
The first order of business with any exercise plan, especially if you are a “dyed-in-the-wool” sluggish, is to consult with your health care provider. If you have cardiac risk factors, the health care provider may want to perform a stress test to establish a safe level of exercise for you.

Certain diabetic complications will also dictate what type of exercise program you can take on. Activities like weightlifting, jogging, or high-impact aerobics can possibly pose a risk for people with diabetic retinopathy due to the risk for further blood vessel damage and possible retinal detachment.

If you are already active in sports or work out regularly, it will still benefit you to discuss your regular routine with your doctor. If you are taking insulin, you may need to take special precautions to prevent hypoglycemia during your workout.

Start Slow
For those who have type 2 diabetes, your exercise routine can be as simple as a brisk nightly neighborhood walk. If you have not been very active before now, start slowly and work your way up. Walk the dog or get out in the yard and rake. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Park in the back of the lot and walk. Every little bit does work, in fact, it really helps a lot.

As little as 15 to 30 minutes of daily, heart-pumping exercise can make a big difference in your blood glucose control and your risk of developing diabetic complications. One of the easiest and least expensive ways of getting moving is to start a walking program. All you need is a good pair of well-fitting, supportive shoes and a direction to head in.

Indeed, you do not have to waste too many expenses on costly “health club memberships,” or the most up-to-date health device to start pumping those fats out. What you need is the willingness and the determination to start exercising to a healthier, type 2 diabetes-free life.

The results would be the sweetest rewards from the effort that you have exerted.

Zinc Supplements For Your Body | Vitamins and Supplements

Zinc supplements provide a much needed mineral that is needed by each and every cell in your body. The body is unable to produce zinc on it’s own, which is why we need to makes sure we eat enough food that contains the mineral, drink enough water, or use the proper supplements that will give our cells the zinc they need.

Zinc is very important, as it plays a crucial role with hundreds of processes in the human body. The most prominent functions include support of the immune system, joints, tissues, along with aiding in cell growth. Zinc supplements have also been proven to eliminate sexual dysfunction, boost sexual function, aid in the health of the hair, and help with skin wound healing.

No matter how you look at it, zinc plays an important role in the function of most of our senses, which includes the ability to taste, smell, and also sight. Research has indicated that zinc can counter vision loss in the event of macular degeneration. A deficiency of zinc on the other hand can lead to dulling of the taste buds, along with the ability to detect scent.

Although zinc is an essential vitamin for our bodies, taking too much of it can be a bad thing. Research has proven that taking more than 100 mg daily for an extended period can cause damage in the immune system. Older folks on the other hand, can benefit from taking zinc if they have a deficiency. The supplement can actually help older people bring their intake back up to the levels they should be at.

When taking zinc supplements, you should always remember that zinc can indeed interfere with your absorption of copper. For this reason, a lot of experts recommend that they should be taken together. Anyone who takes a zinc supplement should take it as part of a well balanced diet, to ensure that other vitamins and minerals work together with the zinc.

With most dietary supplements in the U.S. being unregulated, you should always choose a manufacturer who is GMP compliant. Manufacturers that are GMP compliant will always follow the manufacturing standards of zinc, in order to minimize and quite possibly eliminate the risk of contaminants that you could be getting from the supplement.

If you choose your supplement wisely, you shouldn’t have to worry about any problems. You can buy zinc supplements at GNC, online, or other nutrition stores. It isn’t expensive either, which makes it a welcome edition to your diet. You should always consult with your doctor if you suspect that you have a zinc deficiency, so that he or she can tell you exactly how much zinc you need on a daily basis. This way, if you aren’t getting enough in your normal diet - you can get the supplements you need.

Tips for Eating Healthy When Eating Out | Healthy Foods Menu

If you go out to a restaurant to eat, you probably watch your calories very closely. To assist you with your calorie watching when dining out, these tips will help you make the most of it.
- Always order salad dressings or sauces on the side, as this way you have control over how much you add to your meal.
- When you order grilled fish or vegetables, you should ask that the food be grilled without butter or oil, or prepared with very little or either or.
- Anytime you order pasta dishes, be on the lookout for tomato based sauces instead of the cream based sauces. Tomato based sauces are much lower in fat and calories, and tomato sauce can even be counted as a vegetable!
- You should always try to drink water, diet soda, or tea instead of soda or beverages that contain alcohol.
- If you order dessert, share with a friend. Half of the dessert will equal half of the calories.
- When you choose a soup, remember that cream based soups are higher in fat and calories than other soups. A soup can be a great appetizer, as most are low in calories and you fill you up pretty fast.
- When ordering a baked potato, ask for salsa instead of sour cream, butter, cheese, or even bacon. Salsa is very low in calories and provides a healthy alternative with plenty of flavor and spice.
- When you are full, stop eating. Listen to your body and what it tells you.
- If you get full, take half of your meal home. The second portion of your meal can serve as a second meal later. This way, you get two meals for the price of one.
- If you're looking to eat less, order two appetizers or an appetizer and a salad as your meal.
- If you get a choice of side dishes, get a baked potato or steamed vegetables instead of french fries.
- Always look for food on the menu that's baked, grilled, broiled, poached, or steamed. These types of cooking use less fat in the cooking process and are usually much lower in calories.
- Plain bread or rolls are low in both fat and calories. When you add the butter and oil, you increase the fat and calorie intake.
- As key ingredients to your meal, choose dishes with fruits and vegetables. Both fruits and vegetables are great sources of dietary fiber as well as many vitamins and minerals.
- Choose foods made with whole grains, such as whole wheat bread and dishes made with brown rice.
- If you crave dessert, look for something with low fat, such as berries or fruit.
- Always remember not to deprive yourself of the foods you truly love. All types of foods can fit into a well balanced diet.

Vitamins For A Healthy Heart | Healthy Lifestyle

As we all know, vitamins are very important when it comes to keeping your heart healthy. You need to eat the right foods of course, although you also need to supplement the food you eat with the necessary vitamins your body needs to stay in shape and keep your heart working healthy for a long time to come. If you don’t consume the right nutrients, you won’t be doing your heart any favors - and may end up having problems later on in life.

The first vitamin that comes to mind for most people is vitamin E, a vitamin that is essential to improving the overall health of your heart. When taken correctly, vitamin E will stop the cholesterol in the body from harming the arteries that surround the heart. Anytime cholesterol oxidizes, it sticks to the sides of the arteries and can lead to blockages which can cause heart attacks or other serious problems with the heart.

To help you keep your heart healthy, most doctors recommend that you take additional supplements that contain vitamin E. They may also suggest that you eat foods that are naturally rich in vitamin E, such as nuts. Nuts have high amounts of vitamin E, and most of them taste great. You can find other foods that contain vitamin E as well, although nuts have the highest amounts.

In the past, research has shown Vitamin E to help those who have already suffered the wrath of a heart attack. This vitamin helps to prevent heart attacks in the future by opening up the arteries and eliminate blockage. Those who have had a heart attack in the past are always encouraged to add more vitamin E to their diet.

What many aren’t aware of, is the fact that you can use vitamin C to boost the effects of vitamin E. Vitamin C is known as an antioxidant, which prevents the damaging effects that cholesterol has on the body. Along with preventing cholesterol from damaging the body, vitamin C also helps vitamin E with it’s functions - such as protecting your arteries and your heart.

By taking both vitamin C and E as a combination, you’ll be well on your way to a healthier heart. Overall, this is the easiest way that you can be sure you aren’t damaging your heart, especially if you have had a heart attack in the past. If you have a history of heart disease or heart problems in your family, these vitamins are essential to your diet. Even if you are just concerned about the health of your heart, these vitamins will give you the peace of mind in knowing that you are eating for a healthy heart.

As far as your dosage goes, it will vary from person to person, although 400 international units of vitamin E and C are the recommended amounts for most people. On it’s own, vitamin C can be tolerated in large doses, without imposing any harmful effects. You can take around 500 mg of it twice a day, and ensure that your heart remains healthy.

To be on the safe side, you should always make sure that you get the proper amount of vitamins in your daily diet. Taking additional vitamins and supplements isn’t a bad idea either, especially if you are trying to boost the health of your heart. Your heart is one of the most important organs in your body, which is why you should always take care of it. If you eat the proper diet and take the necessary vitamins - you’ll be well on your way to keeping your heart healthy.

Zinc Supplements For Your Body | Vitamin and Supplements

The Special Needs of the Pregnant Vegetarian | Vegetarian Lifestyle

It’s apparent that your nutritional needs increase when you are pregnant. However, you only need approximately 300 more calories than normal during this time, so it’s imperative that you make wise food choices and eat nutrient-dense food.

A good start is to ensure that you’re eating plenty of protein. Your need for protein increases about 30 percent during pregnancy, but most vegetarian women eat more than enough protein in their regular diets. Soy proteins, beans and legumes are wonderful vegetarian sources of protein.

You need to also step up your calcium intake. Each day you need to be eating at least four servings of calcium-rich foods like broccoli, calcium-fortified soy milk, tofu, and dark green leafy vegetables.

Sunlight stimulates your body to naturally produce vitamin D, and it’s probably the easiest way to ensure you get an adequate amount each day. You only need about 20 minutes directly on your face and hands two to three times per week, when the sun is weakest. If you aren’t able to get out into the sun, be sure to incorporate vitamin-D rich foods into your daily diet by choosing fortified cereals, or using a supplement.

Take a look at your iron intake, as it’s a vital mineral during your pregnancy, especially the last half. Choose beans, dark green leafy vegetables, nuts and seeds, or fortified breads and cereals. You might also want to consider supplementing to ensure you get the required amount.

Vitamin B-12 is also an important nutrient during your pregnancy, but it’s difficult to find in most plant-based foods. Select fortified cereals or soy milk, brewer’s yeast, and consider a multivitamin with an adequate level to ensure your body gets the amount it needs.

And though zinc is difficult to come by in a strict vegan or vegetarian diet, the need for it increases during pregnancy. Whole grains and legumes are wise choices to obtain this nutrient, but you again may need to supplement to make sure you’re getting what you need.

As long as you eat a good variety of nutritious foods that provide the right amount of calories for a healthy weight gain, you should have no problem getting the vitamins and minerals your body needs at this marvelous time. And though many women do choose to take a prenatal vitamin daily, they should not be a substitute for good nutrition. Develop a cooperative relationship with your healthcare provider who supports your vegetarian lifestyle, and consider consulting a nutritionist when necessary.

Sample Daily Menu for Pregnant Vegetarians | Pregnancy Vegetarian Diet

Though your nutritional needs increase now that you’re pregnant, your pregnancy vegetarian diet shouldn’t have to change all that much. With some careful planning to ensure your caloric, vitamin, and mineral needs are met, you can still enjoy a rich variety of nutrient-dense delicious foods and help give your baby a nutritious jump-start. Consider the following daily menu for ideas and inspiration.

Breakfast:
1/2 cup oatmeal with maple syrup
1 slice whole wheat toast with fruit spread
1 cup soy milk
1/2 cup calcium and vitamin D fortified orange juice

Snack:
1/2 whole wheat bagel with margarine
Banana

Lunch:
Veggie burger on whole wheat bun with mustard and catsup
1 cup steamed collard greens
Medium apple
1 cup soy milk

Snack:
3/4 cup ready-to-eat cereal with 1/2 cup blueberries
1 cup soy milk

Dinner:
3/4 cup tofu stir-fried with 1 cup vegetables
1 cup brown rice
Medium orange

Snack:
Whole grain crackers with 2 Tbsp peanut butter
4 ounces apple juice

If morning sickness is giving you fits during your pregnancy, try eating low fat, high carbohydrate nutrient-dense foods. These are digested more quickly and stay in the stomach for less time giving less time for queasiness. Remember to eat often. Sometimes nausea is really hunger in disguise.

Be sure to drink juice, water, or soy milk if you can't eat solid food. Keep trying to eat whatever you can. If you’re unable to eat or drink the appropriate amounts of foods or fluids for 24 hours or more, get in touch with your healthcare provider.

What to Feed your Vegetarian Baby | Vegetarian and Breastfeeding

It goes without saying that the earliest food for any baby, including a vegan baby, is breast milk. It benefits your baby’s immune system, offers protection against infection, and reduces the risk of allergies. Be especially careful that you are getting enough vitamin B-12 when breastfeeding. Also, ensure your infant receives at least 30 minutes of sunlight exposure per week to stimulate the body to produce adequate amounts of vitamin D, since human milk contains very low levels.

The iron content of breast milk is also generally low, no matter how good the mother's diet is. The iron which is in breast milk is readily absorbed by the infant, however. The iron in breast milk is adequate for the first 4 to 6 months or longer. After the age of six months, it is recommended iron supplements are introduced.

Soy milk, rice milk, and homemade formulas should not be used to replace breast milk or commercial infant formula during the first year. These foods do not contain the proper ratio of protein, fat, and carbohydrate, nor do they have enough of many vitamins and minerals to be used as a significant part of the diet in the first year.

Many people use iron-fortified infant rice cereal as the first food. Cereal can be mixed with expressed breast milk or soy formula so the consistency is fairly thin. Formula or breast milk feedings should continue as usual. Start with one cereal feeding daily and work up to 2 meals daily or 1/3 to 1/2 cup. Oats, barley, corn, and other grains can be ground in a blender and then cooked until very soft and smooth. These cereals can be introduced one at a time. However, they do not contain much iron, so iron supplements should be continued.

When baby becomes used to cereals, fruit, fruit juice, and vegetables can be introduced. Fruits and vegetables should be well mashed or puréed. Mashed banana or avocado, applesauce, and puréed canned peaches or pears are all good choices. Mild vegetables such as potatoes, carrots, peas, sweet potatoes, and green beans should be cooked well and mashed. Grain foods such as soft, cooked pasta or rice, soft breads, dry cereals, and crackers can be added when baby becomes better at chewing.

Sample Menu Items for your Growing Vegetarian Toddler | Vegetarian Child

Vegetarian child. The term almost sounds like an oxymoron we’ve joked about through the years, like jumbo shrimp. The words just don’t seem to go together! It's not as unnatural as it may sound. Actually, kids are almost natural vegetarians. It’s imperative that you offer your growing vegetarian child a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, seeds, and soy based proteins to ensure they have the energy and nutrients needed to grow up strong, healthy, and happy. Consider including items in your daily menu planning for a well-rounded, nutrient-dense healthy diet:
2.5-3 cups fortified soymilk
1/4-1/2 cup iron-fortified cereal
2-5 servings grains (1/2 slice bread, 1/4 cup cooked rice, pasta, quinoa, etc)

2-3 servings veggies (1/2 cup salad or raw veggies, 1/4 cup cooked veggies—bear in mind that the younger your child is, cooked vegetables might be easier for them to chew and digest, then introduce raw veggies as they grow older.)

2-3 servings fruit (1/2 fresh fruit, 1/4 cup cooked fruit, 1/4 cup juice)

2 servings protein foods (1/4 -1/3 cup cooked beans/lentils, a slice or so of calcium-fortified tofu, or peanut or almond butter – be sure that nut butters are fed to children who’ve been tested and shown not to have nut allergies; if you’re unsure, wait until your child’s healthcare provider has had the opportunity to test for such allergies in your child before trying them)

Vitamin B-12 source - nutritional yeast, breast milk, formula, fortified soy milks and cheeses

Vitamin D - sunlight, breast milk, formula, fortified soy milk
Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids - flaxseed oil, freshly ground flaxseed

- Ideas for Adding some Variety to your Vegetarian Lifestyle | Healthy Vegetarian Diet

When you’re planning a healthy vegetarian diet, you’re only limited by your imagination. It’s important to incorporate a wide variety of whole grains, legumes, vegetables and fruits in different meals, including seeds and nuts. Variety is the spice of life, and it will help ensure your vegetarian diet is nutrient-dense, interesting, and fun! Aim for variety, even when you serve favorite entrees over and over again, by serving different side dishes, snacks and desserts.
Be creative in planning meals. Boost your consumption of beans and vegetables by eating these foods at lunch time rather than just for dinner. Make it a goal to serve a vegetable every day for lunch and two for dinner. Plan a meal around a vegetable. A baked potato can be a hearty entree; serve it with baked beans, a sauce of stewed tomatoes or a few tablespoons of salsa. Or make a simple meal of sautéed vegetables and pasta.

Try new foods often. Experiment with a variety of grains such as quinoa, couscous, bulgur, barley, and wheat berries. Try fruits and vegetables that are popular in different international cuisines, such as bok choy. Accentuate the positive. Focus more on healthy foods that fit into a vegetarian plan instead of foods to avoid. If you’re unsure how to include a new food into your vegetarian diet, ask the produce manager at your local grocer or health food store for ideas on how to prepare it. The internet can be a great resource for new recipe and preparation ideas. But be sure that you’re building your menu on a strong plant food base. Make them the core of your diet.

Don’t stress about getting enough protein. As long as calories are sufficient and the diet is varied, vegetarians easily meet protein needs. Grains, beans, vegetables, and nuts all provide protein. Vegetarians do not need to eat special combinations of foods to meet protein needs. However, it is important to be aware of fat. Even vegetarians can get too much fat if the diet contains large amounts of nuts, oils, processed foods, or sweets.
