Whatever the reason the student or parent of a student is seeking help with a defaulted loan, the first step is to obtain and review at least four documents that pertain to all student loan.
They are the:
1. Promissory Note.
2. Disclosure Statement,
3. Collection History and
4. Payment History
Together they are often referre to as the "docs." For defaulted loan they may be in a number of different locations.
